自亚利桑那州于1912年2月加入联邦以来，[1]该州共经历了28次美国总统选举。在1912年美国总统选举中，时任总统威廉·霍华德·塔夫脱于亚利桑那州仅以12.75%的得票率屈居第四。[2]而在1936年美国总统选举中，民主党候选人富兰克林·罗斯福以42.92%的得票率之差击败了共和党候选人阿尔夫·兰登，[3]是该州历史上差距最为悬殊的一次总统选举。而第三党候选人在亚利桑那州得票率最高的一次总统选举为1992年美国总统选举，在这次选举中独立候选人罗斯·佩罗的得票率为23.79%。[4]

2020年大选的民主党候选人乔·拜登仅以超过时任总统唐纳德·特朗普0.3%普选票的微弱优势赢下了亚利桑那州。[5] 在统计选举人票时，亚利桑那州众议员保罗·戈萨拉和德克萨斯州参议员泰德·克鲁兹提议反对统计亚利桑那州的11张选举人票，并认为“在任何已知的情况下这些选举人票绝不可能合规”。[6] 该项提议在参议院以6-93落败，而在众议院则以121–303落败。[7] 不过特朗普的竞选团队随后进行了一系列诉讼，以求改变选举结果。[8]

自1952年以来，亚利桑那州仅在1996年和2020年的两次总统选举中将选举人票投给民主党候选人，故而亚利桑那州一向被视为共和党的票仓。[9]然而，近年的一系列政治重组让一部分人认为亚利桑那州可算作摇摆州。[9][10]
