烏鴉座γ的英語傳統命名為“Gienah”來自于阿拉伯語الجناح الغراب اليمن（al-janāħ al-ghirāb al-yaman），意為“烏鴉的右翼”，但是現代的星圖卻把它當作烏鴉的左翼。其英文名Gienah与天鹅座ε完全相同。Gienah Corvi（或Gienah Ghurab）可以用来区分天鹅座的Gienah（天津九）。
占星術
在占星術裏，烏鴉座γ的效果相似于火星和土星，宣揚著貪念和詭計。它是其中一顆中世紀時的伯利恒星，有著烏鴉狀的卡巴拉符號
。
