2022年1月，消息指哈里自2021年9月起與英國內政部打官司，抗議對方拒絕他自費聘請英國警方保護[141][142]。代表律師表示哈里在桑德靈厄姆峰會（Sandringham Summit）期間就這樣提議，但遭到駁回[141][142]。自從他離開皇室之後，皇家及貴賓執行委員會（Royal and VIP Executive Committee）把他列入「例外類別」，也就是說英國警方未來提供保護的時候需要考慮他每次來英國的原因、情況及任務[143][144]。在收到哈里和內政部要求不公開處理案件的申請後，英國高等法院於2022年3月宣布將案件的部分內容列為保密[145]。針對哈里律師團隊將判決書副本發給不是律師的人，案件主審法官斯威夫特表示「完全不能接受」[145]。後來據律師披露，哈里曾經提出自費聘請安保，但這個提議沒有傳達到皇室委員會；與哈里關係極為緊張的女王私人秘書愛德華·楊（英語：Edward Young (courtier)）爵士據稱完全不知道自己是委員[146]。內政部律師團隊表示哈里與皇室的緊張關係與哈里身份變更毫無關係，哈里與委員會交涉不會有效果[146]。2022年7月，法官斯威夫特批准對哈利的部分索賠進行司法審查[147]。

2022年4月，夫婦兩人在去荷蘭出席不屈運動會的途中順道回到英國，會見了女王和查爾斯親王，是兩人兩年來首次回英國[148]。在此之前，哈里兩次獨自回英國，一次是2021年4月回國出席菲臘親王的葬禮，一次是2020年7月會國為母親戴安娜王妃的塑像揭幕[148]。2022年6月，夫婦倆出席女王登基白金禧紀念國家感恩禮拜（英語：Platinum Jubilee National Service of Thanksgiving）[149]。2022年9月，夫婦倆在英國曼徹斯特、倫敦及德國杜塞爾多夫出席慈善活動[150]。

2022年5月，聖巴巴拉縣警察局兩次收到夫婦兩人的家被非法入侵的報警，兩起案件間隔12天[151]。到2022年7月，兩人在加州的住所已經發生六起安全事件，其中一次是誤報[151]。2022年8月，哈里起訴內政部和倫敦警察廳，目標推翻皇家及貴賓執行委員會此前禁止國家安保力量在付費情況下向私人提供安保的決定[152]。2022年11月，英國第四台新聞專訪之前在國家警察局長委員會（英語：National Police Chiefs' Council）負責反恐警務網絡（英語：National Counter Terrorism Policing Network）的尼爾·巴蘇（英語：Neil Basu），確認梅根和哈里受到威脅，其中部分已經調查完畢並起訴[153]。
