本模板可以使编辑者在建立单曲的排行榜时，依照特定的格式列明来源。如要建立专辑专用的排行榜则可以使用另一个相似的模板{{Album chart}}。

使用此模板可以生成一个包括国家及其使用的排行榜、来源、排行榜最高名次等资讯的表格资料，编辑者可以使用此模板产生的资料创建条目里需要的排行榜名次的表格，详细使用方法可以见下面的使用说明。

此模板并不能验证单曲是否出现在排行榜上、及所在的最高名次，它只是让为了创建排行榜名次的表格时可以有可靠的来源。模板所提供的来源资料也不会自动检查可用性，未依指定格式使用模板可能会产生一个无法使用的来源。在使用该模板之前，编辑者应该先自行确认该模板的资料及连结无误再储存条目。

参数

所有的参数除了Chart identifier、Peak position、accessdate为必填、publishdate与refname为选填外，其他参数都应照着下面章节#使用方法依著各个排行榜不同的格式来填写。

• (Chart identifier)或未填参数名称时第一个值：排行榜提供者。填入的值必须为#使用方法章节中表格内“排行榜ID”下的任一值。有些值为国家或国籍（如：Spain、Spanish或西班牙），也有些为特定名称的值（如：Billboardjapanhot100），有些排行榜有着一个以上的值，填入任一个值会得出相同的结果。
• (Peak position)或未填参数名称时第二个值：最高名次。指单曲在排行榜所获得的最高名次。
• song：单曲的名称。不同排行榜所需填入的名称略有不同，请在储存前确认生成连结是否无误。
• artist：专辑的名称。如同song参数，不同排行榜所需填入的名称略有不同，请在储存前确认生成连结是否无误。
• chartid：排行榜代码。仅使用于特定几个排行榜的来源连结中，应填入的代码可在来源的连结网址中找到。
• url：来源网址。仅使用于排行榜来源连结较一般连结无系统者，将直接填入来源的连结网址。
• urltitle：来源网站显示名称。通常与url参数一起使用，将用来显示来源连结出现在参考资料时的显示文字。
• date：排行档存档的日期，格式为“YYYYMMDD”。仅使用于#使用方法中特定几个排行榜，这类的排行榜通常只能查某一个时间中一整个榜，并不能查询特定的一首歌。如其他排行榜要列出排行榜公布的日期请使用publishdate参数。
• year与week：分别为四位数年份及二位数周数，仅用于特定几个排行榜中。周数为01-53等二位数字，有些排行榜在1-9时前面不加0，详细用法见#使用方法中介绍。这两个参数用法与publishdate不同。
• note：用于标示歌曲特定的版本，用法如note=extended dance mix或{{singlechart|Australia|1|song=I'm the Urban Spaceman|artist=The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band|note=uncensored version}}。
• publishdate：排行榜公布的日期，用于附注在参考资料中，建议使用ISO 8601的格式YYYY-MM-DD。
• accessdate：存取日期，用于附注在参考资料中，建议使用ISO 8601的格式YYYY-MM-DD。
• refname：用法同<ref name="name">，使参考料资一次可以附注多次于条目中，使用方法请见Help:脚注#多处标明同一项注脚。
• refgroup：用法同<ref group="xxx">，用于分组参考资料，使用方法请见Help:脚注#把注脚分组。

输出

此模板展开后会输出一个有两列资料的表格及一个参考资料。左列的资料标示排行榜的国家及／或排行榜的名称，附有夹注在<ref></ref>标签内的参考^[n]，如果有使用到note参数则会出现在左列的下方；右列则列出歌曲在榜中的最高名次，在表格内置中。

参考资料如其他的参考一样会陈列在条目中<references />或{{reflist}}模板处。除非有另外指定，模板会自动为参考资料标注名为"sc_Chartid_artist"的参考资料，如：假设条目中使用以下模板

错误讯息

如果使用不正确的方式引用该模板，模板会自动跑出红色的错误讯息以警告编辑者。举例来说，如果你在使用Hungary排行榜时忘记填入两个该榜的必填参数week或year，模板展开来后会像这样：

除了《告示牌》提供的数个排行榜外，此模板也支援许多《告示牌》以外的排行榜。以下两个表格分别列出此模板支援的非《告示牌》及《告示牌》排行榜。

Other non-Billboard charts are not currently supported by {{singlechart}} and their use will need to be formatted and referenced manually (see the Brazil listing in Example 5 above). Be sure, however, not to use one of the deprecated charts. * These charts require the artist parameter solely for the purposes of internal reference naming using the default format (see Output above). If you are using the refname parameter to override the default naming, or you are sure that the references are not being reused in the article, you omit artist for the marked charts. The use of song and title are recommended for all charts, however.

Singlechart usages for chartname

This set of categories lists the calls for each possible chart name, i.e. Category:singlechart usages for Billboardhot100 contains all articles that have used the template to build a reference for the Billboard Hot 100. Note that alternate names are not handled gracefully: Category:singlechart usages for Denmark and Category:singlechart usages for Danish are separate categories.
