He Ding Xiong
Chinese Famous chief physician and former president of Xi'an Mental Health Center Dr. He Dingxiong passed away on June 1, 2020 at the age of 91.
Dr. He Dingxiong,born on December 29, 1929, from Cangzhou County, Hebei Province. He was graduated from Lanzhou Medical University in 1954, engaged in clinical front-line medical treatment.
In 1957, he participated in the establishment of Shaanxi Province Mental Hospital (now the predecessor of Xi'an Mental Health Center).
On December 1, 1957, Shaanxi Province Mental Hospital was opened. Chief physician Dr He Dingxiong was one of the physicians on-duty of the day. At the beginning of the establishment of the hospital, Mr. He Dingxiong, with his spirit of knowledge, generosity, kindness, and dedication, was conscientious, devoted to himself, and set an example, which played a huge role in the establishment of the hospital and was one of the founders of the construction of the Xi’an Mental Health Center. The future development of Xi'an Mental Health Center has made outstanding contributions!
Dr. He Dingxiong is well known at psychiatric diagnosis, treatment and clinical psychopharmacology. He was once as president of Xi'an Mental Health Center, director, deputy chief physician, and associate professor of Shaanxi Psychiatric Hospital and Xi'an Medical College, chief physician of Xi'an Mental Health Center, professor of Shaanxi Psychiatric Continuing Education and Training Base, .Vice Chairman and Adviser of the Shaanxi Provincial Psychiatric Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, Chairman and Adviser of the Xi'an Psychiatric Association, Director of the China Music Therapy Association, Professor of the Shaanxi Provincial Psychiatric Continuing Education and Training Base, Honorary Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Practical Psychiatry, Xi'an Honorary chairman of the Municipal Drug Abuse Society. Outstanding merits, pioneering the treatment of mental diseases with lithium salt.
In 1963, he first carried out research on karyotype analysis of schizophrenia; in 1965, he first applied lithium carbonate to the treatment of mental diseases for the first time in China, and published the first paper on the use of lithium salts in psychiatry to treat mental disorders. It is a milestone for the development of mental health in China.
On May 16, 1979, as the first batch of mental health experts after the China reform and opening up, he visited the United States with a delegation of mental health experts from the Ministry of Health and met with President Carter's wife at the White House. After returning to China, he committed to the development of mental health in Shaanxi.
Over the years, he has published nearly 100 medical papers, participated in more than 10 various medical monographs, published many papers in foreign magazines, and translated a large number of English materials.
In 1981, he started the research on improving electroconvulsive therapy and electroconvulsive therapy, as well as psychiatric cell immunology. In 1985, he began to research music-audio electrotherapy, and applied it in clinic, and achieved excellent results. His above researches are the leading position in China.
Retired in April 1993. In May 2006, he won the first outstanding psychiatrist award of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association.
Throughout his life, he had devoted his whole life to his patients and beloved hospital . After retirement, he had continued to improve his academic thoughts, devoting himself to studying and passing on his lifelong learning to his students. With the responsibility of educating people and preaching the profession, it has cultivated a batch of outstanding scholars and experts in the mental health field. In his later years, he still works hard to eliminate the public discrimination against mentally ill patients, and improve the national mental health.
As time pass by, the spiritual medicine he loves has been carried forward. The Xi'an Mental Health Center where he worked for, has achieved great progress in its comprehensive strength and connotation level, and is forging ahead to achieve the great goal of building a national regional mental health medical center.
With years of contribution and devotion, the spirit of Dr. He Ding Xiong has become more and more benevolence and generosity, elegance and modesty. Dr. He Ding Xiong will forever live in our heart!
