2013年，扎克·巴尼特（Zac Barnett）於《藍圖雜誌》的採訪中表示樂團最近正在實驗不同的樂器（如斑鳩琴、曼陀林、各種打擊玩具等），並提到「受非洲風格影響的節奏於我們的歌曲發揮顯著作用，開展了我們對旋律的想法。我們總是願意嘗試新事物，並於學習新樂器或實驗新音色時感到興奮」[5]。對於歌曲的創作，巴尼特表示〈最棒的一天〉起初是他和詹姆斯·亞當·謝利（James Adam Shelley）天馬行空的想法，而他們只完成了歌曲的導歌和副歌。但當他們將這個想法展示給樂團其他成員後，其他成員為此寫了主歌，並在副歌加入了「結巴的『Life』歌詞」[5]。巴尼特認為最終成果相比起初的想法變化巨大，但這也是他樂意見到的效果。他表示「永遠會記得這首歌是我在布希維克的小臥室內，用原聲吉他寫出來的。但我們所有人將這首歌帶到了新的高度」[5]。
