于2018年3月30日，维基媒体基金会信任与安全小组经理James Alexander宣告了一份通告，通过职权账号“User:WMFOffice”行使了一次基金会行动，对本地用户核查人员进行了职权移除，并宣告本地用户核查工作将交由元维基处理。

• User:金牌雄鹰于2018年4月1日以中国大陆维基人用户组‎的名义发表了一篇评论《维基媒体基金会：谁的意志？》，对此次这次基金会行动表达质疑。User:CopperSulfate于2018年4月13日就这个问题发电子邮件给cawikimedia.org进行咨询（信件信息见此：User:滥权管理员/WMF关于WMFOffice帐户被指由WUGC成员操控一事的辩解）：

之后CopperSulfate没收到回信，也没太在意。之后2018年4月18日James Alexander以[email protected]回信，内容如下：

Hello,

Thank for reaching out with your question.

Please be assured that the WMFOffice account is operated only by members of the Wikimedia Foundation Support & Safety staff ( seen here on meta https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Support_and_Safety#Who_we_are ) and usually members of the Trust & Safety task force on the bottom of that list. Actions taken by the account are official actions of the Wikimedia Foundation. Neither AddisWang or any other members of the WUGC are staff members of the Wikimedia Foundation and they have no access to the account. They also did not take part in any discussion or decision on what the Wikimedia Foundation would be doing regarding the Chinese Wikipedia and found out about the actions at the same time as the rest of the community.
