早期生活
波特在賓夕法尼亞州匹茲堡出生，父母是威廉·E·波特和克洛琳達·讓·約翰遜·波特·福特。[2] [3] 他的姐姐是MaryMartha Ford-Dieng。[4] [5][6] 進入Reizenstein中學後，Porter就讀於Taylor Allderdice高中，然後是匹茲堡創意與表演藝術學校，並於1987年畢業。[7]他畢業於卡內基·梅隆大學美術學院，獲得戲劇學學士學位，並獲得了加州大學洛杉磯分校編劇專業研究生水平[8]的認證。
