《Christmas Saves the Year》是在主唱Tyler Joseph的家庭工作室里創作和錄製的。[3]Twenty One Pilots在主唱Tyler Joseph參加奇波雷挑戰者堡壘之夜系列賽為願望成真基金籌款的Twitch直播結束後[2][4]首次公開了這首歌曲，此前他曾在直播中為觀眾預告了「一份禮物」。[5][6]
最初不願寫聖誕節歌的約瑟夫因「通過一個小女孩的視角體驗聖誕節」受到啟發。曲目的聲音受到一種叫美樂特朗的樂器的啟發。[7]
