过程

2016年3月9日，俄军开始在巴尔米拉一带进行猛烈空袭，至次日已有32名伊斯兰国战士被炸死。[18]

主要的地面战斗在3月12日开始。[8]次日叙军进攻巴尔米拉城堡所在的Qassoun山。[19]叙军计划对巴尔米拉展开三面攻势进行包围。[20]
