西部灰袋鼠( Macropus fuliginosus )[3]是一种大型袋鼠，该袋鼠遍布澳大利亚南部。
1802年，马修·福林达斯来到袋鼠岛时就看到了该物种。[4]马修·福林达斯随后猎杀了几只袋鼠，不过他一度认为它们是东部灰大袋鼠。 1803年，法国人在袋鼠岛活捉了几只西部灰袋鼠并将它们带回巴黎。最终，巴黎自然历史博物馆研究人员意识到这些袋鼠并不是东部灰大袋鼠，并于1817年正式将该物种称之为Macropus fuliginosus 。 [5]
