「斯莫金」·埃德·柯里（英語："Smokin" Ed Currie，1963年8月18日—）為美國辣椒育種員，亦是普克巴特（Puckerbutt）辣椒公司的創立者。他最知名的事跡為培育出了世界上最辣的卡羅來納死神辣椒，並獲得了金氏世界紀錄的認可。而在2023年，由柯里所培育的另一種辣椒X辣椒則打破了先前由卡羅來納死神所創下的世界紀錄。[1][2][3]
背景
埃德·柯里出生於密西根州奧克蘭郡西布魯姆菲爾德鎮區，後畢業於中密西根大學。柯里於2001年遷往南卡羅來納州，在那裡他開始在自家院子中種植辣椒並進行雜交試驗。[4]他曾在2020年Netflix系列紀錄片《我們是冠軍》中的《吃辣椒》一集裡亮相。[5][6]
普克巴特辣椒公司
柯里於2003年在南卡羅來納州米爾堡創立了普克巴特辣椒公司。[7]該公司擁有超過500,000株辣椒植株，並對外出售非常辣的辣椒。他曾先後向超過95個國家或地區出售過辣椒種子、辣椒泥和辣醬。[4]除此之外普克巴特辣椒公司還擁有美國最大的辣椒農場，其年銷售額高達100萬美元。[4][7]柯里的辣醬品牌「The Last Dab」因曾在YouTube頻道《Hot Ones》中亮相而名聲鵲起。[7][8]
柯里用毛刷通過人工授粉的方式進行辣椒的雜交工作。柯里將從巴基斯坦以及聖文森特島採集到的辣椒進行了雜交，從而培育出了卡羅來納死神辣椒。[9]卡羅來納死神最終於2017年贏得了世界最辣辣椒的金氏世界紀錄。[10][11]不過在2023年8月23日，金氏世界紀錄認證他所培育的另一種辣椒X辣椒為世界上最辣的辣椒，其辣度為269萬SHU，正式確認打破了由卡羅來納死神所創下的記錄。[12][13]
