檀奴

檀奴（दनु Danu）是原始印度教的女神，梨俱吠陀提到的檀那婆之母 。檀奴這個詞描被述為原始的水，這可能是祂的神格。在梨俱吠陀（I.32.9）中，被因陀羅殺死的魔蛇弗栗多的母親。[1]在後來的印度教，她成為達剎的女兒，以及迦葉波仙人的妻子。[2]
詞源
作為「雨」或「液體」的詞語dānu可以與阿維斯陀語的「河流」dānu相比較，以及更多的河流名稱，如頓河（Don）、多瑙河（Danube）、第聶伯河（Dnieper）、德涅斯特河（Dniestr）等。尼泊爾還有一條檀奴河。[3]「液體」這個詞是中性的，但在梨俱吠陀（I.54）中是女性化的。
