Foxmail是騰訊公司旗下的免費電子郵件客戶端，具有電子郵件管理^[2]和郵件伺服器功能^[3]。同時它還有RSS訂閱、日曆、聯繫人等功能。

歷史

Foxmail最初在1997年1月由華中科技大學畢業生張小龍開發，其名字取自金庸武俠小說《笑傲江湖》中的人物令狐沖^[4]。2000年4月18日，Foxmail以1200萬元的價格賣給了博大公司，隨後於2005年3月16日被騰訊控股收購^[1]。

使用

根據2001年新浪網的統計，Foxmail在中國占有32.92%的市場份額^[5]。在2003年的一份與威瑞信共同發布的推廣國際化域名的新聞稿中透露Foxmail在中國每天有超過300萬用戶^[6]，而作為對比，2002年1月中國網際網路用戶的總數為3500萬^[7]。Foxmail的教程經常可以在面向中國市場的網際網路掃盲書籍中找到^[8]^[9]^[10]^[11]。

爭議

2011年6月，荷蘭版PC Magazine報導稱，Foxmail的6.0版本偶爾會向datacollect.foxmail.com.cn發送電子郵件使用數據，但總體來說是「優秀的電子郵件客戶端」，推薦不受此問題影響的被騰訊收購前的最後一個版本，即5.0.8版^[12]。

Foxmail 5在主題和地址頭欄位中放入了8位字符，違反了RFC 822、2822和5322^{[來源請求]}，但是是為了支持IETF於2003年3月發布的RFC3454、RFC3490、RFC3491、RFC3492等中文域名標準^[13]。
