{{JPL small body}} is an external link template that points to the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory Small-Body Database Browser at http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/.

Usage

The template has two optional parameters:

• name - supplies the name of the object to be searched for
• accessdate - supplies the access date if the template is used as a reference

In 99% of the cases it is not necessary to supply the name parameter, since it defaults to the article name (i.e. {{PAGENAME}}), which results in a correct external link. Thus, when used in the External links section, just

is usually sufficient. There are some exceptions, though:

• The article name contains diacritics (e.g. 2867 Šteins) - JPL Small Body Database does not support diacritics. Supply the name parameter without diacritics (e.g. {{JPL small body|name=2867 Steins}}).
• The article name contains apostrophes (e.g. 21774 O'Brien) - a bug in the MediaWiki urlencode function results in a malformed external link. Supply the article name in the name parameter (e.g. {{JPL small body|name=21774 O'Brien}}).
• The article name is the asteroid's provisional name (e.g. (8619) 1981 EH1) - JPL Small Body Database search does not accept this. Supply the name parameter without the parenthesized part (e.g. {{JPL small body|name=1981 EH1}}).
