歐洲人民黨黨團是歐洲議會中的右翼政治集團，由歐洲人民黨成員政黨的議員組成，有時包括獨立的歐洲議會議員和/或來自非附屬國家政黨的代表。[12][13][14]這個黨團由基督教民主、保守和自由保守傾向的政治人物組成。[15][16][17]

1976年，歐洲人民黨作為歐洲政黨正式成立。然而歐洲人民黨自1953年6月以來就已經存在了，它來自歐洲煤鋼共同體的共同大會，是歐洲最古老的一級政治團體之一。自1999年以來，它一直是歐洲議會中最大的政治團體。

歷史

歐洲煤鋼共同體（今歐洲議會的前身）的共同大會於1952年9月10日[18]舉行了第一次會議，第一個基督教民主團體在第二天非正式成立，由馬安·薩森擔任主席。[10][19] 該集團在78個席位中占有38席，比絕對多數少兩席。[10][20]1953年6月16日，共同大會通過了一項決議[21]，使正式成立政治團體成為可能。1953年6月23日，正式發表了該團體的《組織法宣言》[22]，從而正式成立了該團體。[10][20][23]
