自阿拉斯加州於1959年1月加入聯邦以來，[1][2]該州共參與了16次總統選舉，每次選舉都有三張選舉人票。在1960年的美國總統選舉中，共和黨籍的時任副總統尼克森以1,144票（得票率之差為1.88%）的微弱差距擊敗了民主黨候選人甘迺迪，贏得了阿拉斯加州的選舉人票。[3][4]而在1964年的總統選舉中，民主黨候選人林登·詹森擊敗了共和黨候選人贏得了阿拉斯加州，這是民主黨在阿拉斯加州唯一獲勝的總統選舉。[5][6]自1964年總統選舉以後，共和黨在阿拉斯加州贏得了每一次總統選舉。[7]

共和黨候選人隆納·雷根在1984年美國總統選舉中於阿拉斯加州的得票率比民主黨高出36.78%，[8]是迄今為止最為懸殊的一次。而第三黨候選人於阿拉斯加州得票率最高的一次總統選舉為1992年美國總統選舉，在這次選舉中獨立候選人羅斯·佩羅在阿拉斯加州的得票率為28.43%。[9]目前多家新聞群組織及媒體均將阿拉斯加州視為穩定的紅州。[10][11][12]
