维基百科是线上百科全书。 它包含 general 百科全书、 specialized 百科全书、年鉴、地理志和地方志的元素。维基百科不是个人演讲台，不是广告平台，不是自费出版社，不是无政府主义或民主的试验场，不是不经筛选的资讯收集处，也不是线上目录。维基百科不是辞典、新闻媒体或文献库；这类内容应该改为贡献至维基媒体姊妹计划。

维基百科采用中立观点。我们力求条目不拥护单一观点。有时这须要重新表达为多个观点，在来龙去脉中准确地表达每个观点，并不把任何观点表达为“真理”、“真相”或“最佳观点”。所有条目必为可供查证的准确性而努力：没有参考依据的资料可以被移删，所以请提供参考来源。编辑的个人经验、诠释或意见不属于这里。这意味的是引用可供查证的、权威性的来源，尤其在有争议性的话题和当所讲的是在世的人。如果在著手中立性时出现冲突，则在讨论页商讨细节，并跟从争论解决方法。

维基百科的内容是自由的，任何人都可以编辑和散布。尊重版权法，并避免抄袭。不自由的内容可以依据合理使用而被接受，但请力寻其他自由的媒体档案或内容，替代任何您想添加至维基百科的不自由作品。既然，你的全部贡献都授权给公众享用自由，那么，就没有编辑者拥有任何条目；你贡献出的全部，都可以并且会，被毫不留情地编辑和再散布。

Wikipedians should interact in a respectful and civil manner. Respect and be polite to your fellow Wikipedians, even when you disagree. Apply Wikipedia etiquette, and avoid personal attacks. Find consensus, avoid edit wars, and remember that there are 1,420,590 articles on the English Wikipedia to work on and discuss. Act in good faith, never disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point, and assume good faith on the part of others. Be open and welcoming.

Wikipedia does not have firm rules. Rules on Wikipedia are not fixed in stone, and the spirit of the rule trumps the letter of the rule. Be bold (but not reckless) in updating articles and do not worry about making mistakes. Your efforts do not need to be perfect; prior versions are saved, so no damage is irreparable.
